Robyn Regehr goes to the LA Kings, as Sabres sell-off continues

Robyn Regehr was the owner of a no-trade clause. He told the Buffalo News that he would only waive it if the situation were right. Well, with his contract expiring this summer and no talk of an extension, plus the Buffalo Sabres in full "sell" mode, it was no surprise that Regehr was on the move Monday night.

According to TSN's Darren Dreger, Regehr waived his no-trade clause for a deal that would send him to the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for a two second round picks.

That's a great return for Sabres GM Darcy Regier on an expiring deal. Add to that the second and conditional fifth rounder in the return for Jordan Leopold and Regier has given himself a nice number of options to build for the future, whether that's through the draft or parlaying picks into actual NHL bodies.

For the Kings, Regehr is their replacement for Willie Mitchell, who's likely out for the season after undergoing knee surgery. Matt Greene, who hurt his back in LA's opener against the Chicago Blackhawks, could return by the start of the playoffs to help improve their depth on the blueline.

Next up on Regier's list? Jason Pominville, who was reportedly asked to prepare a list of eight teams he did not want to be dealt to. That's not a definitive goodbye for the Sabres' captain, but at least Regier would have something to work with as the fire sale continue.
