After losing out in the Jarome Iginla sweepstakes last week, the Boston Bruins GM went out and got his upgrade on the wing by acquiring Jaromir Jagr from the Dallas Stars in exchange for two prospects, according to Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News.
ESPN.com's Pierre LeBrun reports that the trade call between the Stars and Bruins "could still be an hour away". Do we know where Ray Shero is?
Jagr's presence will help a 24th-ranked Bruins power play. The Stars were dead-last in power play efficiency last season with a 13.5-percent success rate. This season, with Jagr's nine power play points, Dallas was up to 18.8-percent, good enough for 18th in the NHL.
In 34 games this season, Jagr has 26 points, not far off the pace of the 54 points he put up a year ago in Philadelphia. And like his role with the Flyers Jagr won't need to be The Guy in Boston. At 41-years old he can't be, but surrounded by the likes of Patrice Bergeron, Tyler Seguin, Nathan Horton, David Krejci, etc., etc., he should continue to thrive and provide a beneficial presence.
As if the Iginla drama didn't spice up a potential Bruins-Penguins conference final matchup, tossing Jagr into the mix will only make such a meeting even more intense.
