The Winnipeg Jets were battling the Washington Capitals on Tuesday night with the Southeast Division title on the line. Already down 1-0, the Jets thought they may knotted the game with just under seven minutes left in the first period.
Did they? Or did the puck fail to completely cross the goal line after deflecting off of Brayden Holtby?
The ruling was no-goal on the ice, and confirmed by the NHL War Room.
This photo shows just how razor-thin the margin was for the puck before it was swept out of harm’s way by John Erskine (who earlier saved another goal with a sliding stop in the crease).
Boy, we could have really used that verification line for this one. Whatever happened with that idea?
But the real issue with this no-goal: Blake Wheeler. Arms up, twirling for the celebration instead of slam-dunking it home -- d'oh. He would later get one in the second period.
