Watch Justin Peters absolutely rob Thomas Vanek in Hurricanes’ win over Sabres (VIDEO)

With Cam Ward out for the rest of the regular season, Justin Peters and Dan Ellis have taken over Carolina Hurricanes goaltending duties. It’s a hell of an opportunity for Peters, the 26-year-old netminder who was rolling in the AHL before his call-up.

In his first start in place of Ward, he made quite an impression. At least on Thomas Vanek of the Buffalo Sabres, in the second period:

That was grand larceny right there. Peters stopped 37 shots as the Hurricanes defeated the Sabres, 4-3.

As the Canes told WRAL earlier this week, it’s Peters’ moment:

"Petey's played games here so it's not that crazy for him," said Hurricanes captain Eric Staal. "We know what he brings to the table."

"Now is his chance," said head coach Kirk Muller. "He's had a great first half down in Charlotte. He's been playing really well, so he should have confidence."

Not a bad way to begin – robbing one of the best goal-scorers in the NHL.
