Patrick Kane talks ESPN; Hamrlik on waivers; Kaleta defends reputation (Puck Headlines)

Here are your Puck Headlines: a glorious collection of news and views collected from the greatest blogosphere in sports and the few, the proud, the mainstream hockey media.

Still got it, ‘E’ …

• Patrick Kane is cool with the Chicago Blackhawks being compared to the Miami Heat. "I think for me, personally, I'm a guy who has watched ESPN ever since I've been growing up. You turn it on, and it's one of the first stories -- the Blackhawks and hockey, which you don't really see on that station. That's cool to see. I know hockey is growing in the U.S., and it's becoming more popular, but anything to get the game out there and see how we view it. We view it as the best game in the world. Hopefully, other people will start to, too." [ESPN Chicago]

• Should Marcus Kruger replace Dave Bolland on Chicago's second line? [NBC Chicago]

• Huge ratings for the Chicago Blackhawks vs. the Detroit Red Wings last weekend on NBC: “NBC’s coverage of the Chicago Blackhawks dramatic 2-1 shootout victory against the Detroit Red Wings (12:30-3:15 p.m. ET) resulted in a 1.6 overnight rating, the best-ever for a single regular-season game (excluding Winter Classics) and up 60% vs. last year’s same-weekend coverage (1.0, Bos-NYR). The Blackhawks extended their season-starting point streak to 22 straight games with the win. Final ratings and viewership will be available later this week.” [Malik]

• Alex Kovalev will no longer play for the Florida Panthers. Sigh. [NHL.com]

• The Washington Capitals place Roman Hamrlik on waivers after he played just four of 20 games. Any team that claims Hamrlik would take on his $3.5 million cap hit and his remaining salary. [Wash Times]

• Brad Richards is out for the New York Rangers against the Philadelphia Flyers tonight. [NYDN]

• Buffalo Sabres pest Patrick Kaleta on his critics: “They can call me whatever they want to call me. People know me as a person and I know you guys and people in Buffalo see me as a hockey player, how I’ve grown and what I’m like on and off the ice so you guys know what kind of a person I am, they don’t, they see one play and judge a player and how you are as a person on that one play.” [WGR550]

• GM Paul Holmgren on the Philadelphia Flyers trade prospects: “We think we have a good group of young players that we prefer not to mess with." [ESPN]

• Shawn Thornton’s last ride. [Hockey Writers]

• Really great story from Eric Francis on Brian McGrattan, who has been assisting the NHLPA in helping players battling substance abuse. [Calgary Sun]

• Cory Schneider gets the call against the San Jose Sharks, with Keith Ballard back in the lineup too for the Vancouver Canucks. [CKNW]

• Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/General Manager David Poile announced today that the club claimed forward Zach Boychuk on waivers from the Pittsburgh Penguins and placed forward Brandon Yip on injured reserve. Boychuk is on a two-way contract worth $625,000 and the NHL level and $105,000 at the AHL level in 2012-13. [Predators]

• Mattieu Garon’s injury ain’t no thang. [TampaBay.com]

• Finally, Luc Robitaille’s Harlem Shake.
