The 37-year-old goalie returned from a 13-game absence due to injury and helped the Flames defeat the San Jose Sharks, 4-1. Kiprusoff made 32 saves, including 17 in the third period as the Sharks had two power plays in the final frame.
No. 2 Star: Jonathan Toews, Chicago Blackhawks
Toews scored arguably the most important goal of the Blackhawks’ 3-2 win over the Colorado Avalanche: a shorthanded tally, his 10th goal of the season, to tie the game in the third period. Dan Carcillo had the eventual game-winner, as Chicago earned at least a point its 24th straight game.
No. 3 Star: Phil Kessel, Toronto Maple Leafs
Kessel assisted on two goals and scored his sixth of the season in the third period as the Toronto Maple Leafs won the Battle of Ontario over the Ottawa Senators, 5-4.
Honorable mention: Jonas Hiller only faced 18 shots and stopped them all, as the Anaheim Ducks finally took a game from the Phoenix Coyotes, 2-0. Corey Perry and Ryan Getzlaf had the goals. … Blake Comeau’s first of the season was the game-winner for the Flames. … Chris Butler and Dennis Wideman were plus-3 for Calgary. … Matt Duchene and John Mitchell scored for the Avs. … Ray Emery improved to 10-0-0, becoming the first goalie to achieve that mark to start a season. … James van Riemsdyk scored his 13th of the season. … Zack Smith scored his first and added an assist for the Senators.
