The Nashville Predators are the only team in the NHL that averages fewer than two goals per game. They've scored one or fewer in 12 of their 23 games. They've been especially snake-bitten recently, too, with scoring only once in three consecutive losses.
That in mind, no club is going to appreciate a freebie quite like Weber and the boys, so they had to be thanking their lucky stars when David Legwand managed to extend their lead over the Edmonton Oilers to two, courtesy a gentle one-hopper from the red line:
Oh, Devan Dubnyk. Oh no. No, that's not how you do it.
This is funny every time it happens, but you've got to feel for Dubnyk. This puck was wobbling as it came down, and that somehow made it jump to his left and find room under the backstop's arm. As a result, Dubnyk winds up looking less like a goaltender and more like a bad punt returner. Basically, he became this guy.
But still. While I used to score like this all the time in SNES's NHL Stanley Cup, that was due to a glitch. This isn't supposed to happen in real life.
The goal appears to have given the Predators' offence a newfound confidence, which is no surprise. If you can score from the red line, you can score practically at will, and Nashville's just about done that. At the time of this writing, they lead Edmonton 4-0.
