Love this photo. You can't see the puck, the goal, the light, or the net, but you know exactly what's happened.
No. 1 Star: Nazem Kadri, Toronto Maple Leafs
In a 5-4 victory over the New York Islanders, Kadri picked up the first hat trick of his NHL career. There wasn't an ugly goal in the bunch, either. All three of Kadri's goals were pretty, especially the third one.
No. 2 Star: Andrew Ladd, Winnipeg Jets
The Jets sit eighth in the East after a 3-1 win over the New Jersey Devils. Ladd led the way in this one, in on all 3 Winnipeg goals. The first he scored himself, just eight seconds into the game:
What the heck, New Jersey. Anyway, Ladd would also score the game-winner, then pick up an assist on Blake Wheeler's empty-netter to ice the victory.
No. 3 Star: Gabriel Landeskog, Colorado Avalanche
After going down by three goals in the first period, Landeskog led the way in a Colorado comeback, with a goal and 2 assists in a 5-4 victory. His biggest contribution was a goal just 23 seconds into the third to cut the Flames' lead to one. Six minutes later, he assisted on David Jones' game-tying marker before Matt Duchene before the Avs ahead for good.
Honourable mention: Patrice Bergeron scored the overtime winner in the Boston Bruins' 2-1 win over the Ottawa Senators. What a painful goal this is for Robin Lehner, who made 44 saves and deserved better. It just sat there on the goal line forever:
... Rick Nash and Ryan McDonagh had 2-point nights as the New York Rangers handled the Tampa Bay Lightning, 4-1... Devan Dubnyk made 31 saves and Ales Hemsky had a 3-point night in the Edmonton Oilers' 5-1 trouncing of the Dallas Stars... Dany Heatley scored twice as the Minnesota Wild held off the Phoenix Coyotes for a 4-3 win... Ray Emery only needed to make 15 saves as the Chicago Blackhawks extended their run to 20 games without a regulation loss in an easy, 3-0 victory over the St. Louis Blues. Jonathan Toews scored twice... Kyle Okposo had a 3-point night in the Islanders' loss... Nathan Gerbe scored twice in the Buffalo Sabres' 4-3 shootout victory over the Florida Panthers. His second was a beauty:
... Jordan Staal didn't pick up a point in his first contest versus his old team, the Pittsburgh Penguins, but his brother had 3. Eric Staal contributed 1 goal and 2 assists -- and Jiri Tlusty did the opposite, 2 and 1 -- as the Carolina Hurricanes defeated the Pens, 4-1... Damien Brunner scored the shootout winner in the Detroit Red Wings' 2-1 triumph over the San Jose Sharks.
Did You Know? If John Tavares fails to record a point, the Islanders lose. They're 0-7-1 when that happens.
Dishonourable mention: If not for Mathieu Garon, the Tampa Bay Lightning would have lost by much, much more than three... rough night for the Calgary Flames. They were leading 2-0, then the Avalanche matched the Ryan O'Reilly offer sheet and came back to win their game 5-4... Jamie Benn could be in trouble with the Department of Player Safety after a crosscheck on Ryan Jones.
