NY Islanders’ Colin McDonald faces suspension for hit vs. Penguins (VIDEO)

Colin McDonald of the New York Islanders earned a 5-minute major and a game misconduct against the Pittsburgh Penguins for this hit on Ben Lovejoy in the second period:

For this hit, the Islanders winger earned a disciplinary hearing with the NHL Dept. of Player Safety. It’s his first spin on the Wheel of Justice.

The odd part about this: McDonald was a member of the Penguins last season, for five games in the NHL and 66 games with the WB/S Penguins in the AHL.

Fairly cut-and-dry suspension here: Shove from behind on a defenseless player, and then launching into a hit that drove Lovejoy’s head into the glass.

No word on an injury, but Lovejoy played five shifts in the third period.

If we’re playing “Guess The Suspension”, put us down for three games.

Oh, and if you're curious: No supplemental discipline for Mike Brown of the Toronto Maple Leafs for that hit that sent Pat Kaleta to the hospital last night. Kaleta turned late, and Brown didn't exactly plow him.
