The basic spin-o-rama used to be a highlight reel shootout goal all on its own, but over the last three or four years, it's become, well, basic. It's pretty standard now, which means that it takes a little something extra to impress. So maybe you complete the rotation and keep the puck on the forehand, as Mikhail Grabovski did. Or maybe you add an extra stickhandle, pulling the puck back after the spin, ala Marty St. Louis.
Here's another new -- and incredible -- take on it, as Colton Yellow Horn of the ECHL's Ontario Reign puts the puck between his legs, kicks it to his stick, then springs the spin-o-rama on the bewildered San Francisco Bulls netminder for the goal.
I mean, that's hardly fair. Unbelievable.
Victimized goalie Thomas Heemskerk on what happened there, via SFBay.com:
“The ESPN highlight reel. I just remember [Yellow Horn] kind of pushed it blocker side and next thing I knew, I was behind the play and he was going the other way. I couldn’t catch up."
The goal was the Reign's second of the shootout and would stand as the winner in a 4-3 victory over the Bulls.
