No CBA talks today; Glendale wants to rework lease deal with Jamison; Avery talks retirement (Puck Headlines)

Here are your Puck Headlines: a glorious collection of news and views collected from the greatest blogosphere in sports and the few, the proud, the mainstream hockey media.

• The NHL and NHLPA will not meet today, instead they will regroup for a session on Friday. No word if the PA's counter proposal will come tomorrow. [TSN via CP]

• Michael Grange on Gary Bettman: "In his mind he and the owners have been playing Mr. Nice Guy in their back and forth banter with the NHLPA. They haven't thrown their weight around; not yet. But Bettman has a track record; he's shut down his sport before and has said here this week that his first priority is getting the deal he feels his owners need rather than starting the season on time." [Sportsnet]

• Allan Muir on the NHL's latest offer: "There was no mention of a salary rollback, like the 24 percent the players had to cough up in the 2005 settlement, but there's still a significant haircut to be taken. They can call it escrow, but by any name it means giant piles of money are being yanked back from the players. And so, despite Bettman's claim, this proposal is not different in any meaningful way from the first. A new approach, sure, but it's not progress." [Sports Illustrated]

• Greg Jamison wants to move forward with buying the Phoenix Coyotes. The City of Glendale wants to rework the 20-year, $324 million deal they have with him. And so it continues ... [Arizona Republic]

• The surviving members of the 1972 Team Canada Summit Series team plan to travel to Russia next week to commemorate the 40th anniversary of their series against the Soviet Union. Unfortunately, Paul Henderson, who scored the winning goal in Game 8, will not attend as he's undergoing cancer treatment. [National Post]
