Whoops: After Avalanche break signing, Matt Carkner actually signs with Islanders

At 1 p.m. ET., the Twitter feed of the Colorado Avalanche sent out this Tweet alerting the world of two new additions to the squad. A half hour after that Tweet, Bob McKenzie of TSN spoke with Matt Carkner's agent and was told that nothing was official yet with the Avalanche.

A little over an hour after Colorado's initial Tweet, TSN's Aaron Ward confirmed that Carkner had actually signed a 3-year deal with the New York Islanders. The Ottawa Sun's Bruce Garrioch reports it's $1.5 million a season and the Senators offered just a 1-year, $750,000 contract.

Carkner will bring toughness and his fighting skills to the Islanders blueline and now he and Brian Boyle of the New York Rangers will get a chance to be reacquainted six times a year beginning next season.

Having already chirped the Minnesota Wild Twitter account after their announcement that they've submitted offers to Zach Parise and Ryan Suter, no word on this fail from the Los Angeles Kings Twitter yet.
