Nail Yakupov, 18, spent the last weekend reaching out to the public as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2012 NHL Draft by the Edmonton Oilers: Signing autographs, snapping photographs and humoring members of the media who were interested in what kind of animal he'd fight. (Spoiler: A cat … and a bear.)
That's because Nail Yakupov is a man of the people, especially when it comes to the people on Twitter. His feed, @Nail10_1993, is a collection of one-word tweets, Russian emoticons and random reference to food.
It's also almost completely about fan interaction. It's pretty much one of the coolest, oddest athlete feeds we've seen — imagine an un-jaded Alex Ovechkin with boundless enthusiasm and endless flirtation. Or just imagine Twitter was around in 2005.
Here's a taste of what it's like to Get Nailed on Twitter.
Seriously, how can you not love this kid?
As you can see, he's a chip off the Ovi block.
We imagine this feed will sadly change now that Yakupov is an NHLer and has corporate masters to serve.
But until that happens: Please, sir, more Q&As with your adoring public. It will only help your Calder candidacy.
