Justin Schultz’s final five; Hurricanes goalie hurt; celebrating LA Kings fan diversity (Puck Headlines)

Here are your Puck Headlines: a glorious collection of news and views collected from the greatest blogosphere in sports and the few, the proud, the mainstream hockey media.

• Constitutional scholar Tom Sestito of the Philadelphia Flyers chimes in on the Obama Administration and U.S. tax code, which actually has lower rates than that of Canada. He might just be looking out for the best interests of the health care industry, having already contributed Nathan Horton to help generate more revenue for neurologists.

• Coveted NCAA free agent Mike Van Ryan Matt Gilroy Tyler Bozak Justin Schultz may have his list narrowed to the Canucks, Maple Leafs, Rangers, Senators and Oilers. [NHL]

• For all the crap he takes, round of applause for Columbus Blue Jackets GM Scott Howson for signing defenseman Nikita Nikitin to a two-year, $4.3 million contract. He was a solid pickup and played well for them last season. Fedor Tyutin and Nikitin, Jack and Wiz … two solid pairings. [Puck-Rakers]

• Brian Boucher is out up to six months with an injured shoulder. Which is crappy news for him and the Carolina Hurricanes, but great news for Justin Peters or some free-agent goalie out there. [Canes Now]

• Spector on Shane Doan: "Doan may still re-sign with the Coyotes especially if, as Maloney suggested, progress is made on the sale of the franchise to the Jamison group. But Doan isn't likely to wait long beyond July 1 for a resolution to the ownership situation." [THN]

• Inside the Jamie Benn contract talks with the Dallas Stars. [DFWSD]

• Guillaume Latendresse will not be back with the Minnesota Wild, after being offered a 1-year deal. He wants to be closer to his 4-year-old son in Montreal. [Russo]

• The NJ Devils' awesome fourth line from the playoffs all need new contracts. Somehow, Game 6 goat Steve Bernier appears the most likely to sign. [Fire & Ice]

• Brian Burke says the Toronto Maple Leafs won't be in on Zach Parise or Ryan Suter, because doesn't like losing, amirite? [Sportsnet]

• Was the Sidney Crosby contract a message to Parise? [Pensblog]

• Why Parise is the No. 1 free agent available. One word: Dimples. [Sporting News]

• Brian Lee signs with the Tampa Bay Lightning for 2 years. [Lightning]

• Scott Nichol re-signs with the St. Louis Blues for one year. [Blues]

• Sorry to read this about agent Don Baizley's health. [Free Press]

• Via Sharkie Q, footage of the 1972 Russian Hockey Legends vs. Owen Nolan and the San Jose Sharks alumni. Evgeni Nabokov sighting!

• Mike Santorelli and Matt Bradley are waived by the Florida Panthers. [Litter Box Cats]

• Why Shane Doan and Matt Carle (!) should be on the Washington Capitals' wish list. [Capitals Insider]

• The Dennis Wideman Calgary Flames signing announcement from the CP had an epic typo. [TruTV]

• New York Islanders defensive options? "It is very clear that the organization will want to get better now on the blue line. Expect the Islanders to go hard at an underrated defender like Florida's Jason Garrison. A steady and experienced defenseman like a Bryce Salvador could be coveted as well." [BD]

• We didn't feel the need to cover the Joffrey Lupul Twitter thing in a big way, because attempting to twist this into a "scandal" is stupid; which, by default, means that the Vancouver Sun is stupid. "The pair allegedly sent messages back and forth…" shine the Pulitzer. [Sun]

• Up The Pucks has it's more nuanced take: "Call me naive but if Joffery Lupul has to beg ladies to see what their sweater yams look like, what hope is there for anyone else?" [Up The Pucks]

• Here's the since-deleted blog post from Taylor Milligan, who participated in whatever the hell this all was. [Princess Sass]

• Finally, there's some NSFW language in this mini-doc from MMXLII, but it's an entertaining look at some of the multi-cultural fans that root for the Los Angeles Kings. Grating overenthusiastic host warning too.
