Bob Miller excited to call LA Kings’ Stanley Cup clinching game – on DVD

Jeff Marek and I were honored to have the voice of the Los Angeles Kings Bob Miller on the Marek vs. Wyshynski podcast today, and he was expectedly excited about the prospect of the Kings winning their first Stanley Cup. Give it a listen here; it's a great bit of nostalgia, emotion and analysis:

One of the topics we discussed (about 6 minutes in) involved a campaign by Kings fans to somehow get Miller and Jim Fox to call the Cup-clinching moment for the team, should it happen. Miller wasn't about to ask radio voice Nick Nickson to step aside at the end of the clinching game, so the Kings, Miller an Fox came up with another idea. Said Miller:

"I just found out about it after the game last night, we are going to record the play-by-play of the game, and they're going to make that available to Kings fans later on. We can't do it live because of the rights fee situation with NBC, but we're going to do that and then they'll make a DVD to purchase, whether it's before charity or whatever. It'll give us a chance to describe the closing moments for the Cup-clinching game."

Miller went on to say that he and Fox would broadcast the entire game from tape, and that's what you'll find on the DVD.

A little unorthodox, but a really cool idea to satisfy a fan base that, frankly, can't imagine the franchise's greatest moment without a beloved announcer describing it.
