Shanahan: No fines, suspensions for Shane Doan or Derek Morris after Game 2 malarkey

Before tending to the suspension of Phoenix Coyotes center Martin Hanzal for this boarding major against Dustin Brown in Game 2, NHL VP of Player Safety Brendan Shanahan announced that two other Coyotes will be spared from supplemental discipline after their indiscretions with Los Angeles Kings players.

First, Shanahan announced that Shane Doan would not be fined or suspended for his boarding major on Trevor Lewis, claiming that Lewis turned his body prior to the check. You can watch the hit here. The image up top was tweeted from Shanahan's account, showing Doan in close proximity with Lewis and the Kings forward facing him prior to the hit.

Shanahan also announced that defenseman Derek Morris would not receive any supplemental discipline for a kneeing incident against Kings defenseman Rob Scuderi in the third period. You can watch the play around eight seconds into this clip:

The NHL agreed with the kneeing call on the ice, but felt it didn't rise to the level of additional punishment.

No word from Shanahan on Mike Smith's slash on Dustin Brown. That's probably because anyone calling for a suspension on that play is being an overexcited ninny.
