Bruins issue statement denouncing racist comments directed at Capitals’ Ward

Shortly after Joel Ward scored the series-winning goal in overtime Wednesday night to propel the Washington Capitals past the Boston Bruins and into the second round of the playoffs, a segment of the Bostonian faithful took to Twitter to express their disappointment.

And, because Joel Ward is a person of colour, a sub-segment did this in a way that was exceedingly and disgustingly racist. It wasn't exactly a surprise (there's a pocket of idiots in every fanbase), but it was shocking to see nonetheless.

It was also enough for the Boston Bruins to issue a statement distancing themselves from these individuals. From Bruins.com:

"The Bruins are very disappointed by the racist comments that were made following the game last night. These classless, ignorant views are in no way a reflection of anyone associated with the Bruins organization."

Colour me fully amused at the brevity of this statement. In effect: "Some people are racist idiots. We are not. Thank you, goodbye."

Good on the Bruins for making the easiest decision of their lives and denouncing anyone associated with these views.
