Former Edmonton Oilers pugilist Steve MacIntyre is now a forward for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in the AHL. According to the announcers in the following clip, from the Penguins' 4-3 victory over the Springfield Falcons on Sunday, he's also lost his marbles and should be in handcuffs.
Here's MacIntyre, earning himself a match penalty in pummeling Falcons goalie Paul Dainton — twice.
The circumstances surrounding MacIntyre's encounter with Dainton began in the second period when Springfield's Greg Amadio, a rugged defenseman, fought winger Geoff Walker, one of the Penguins' top goal scorers.
Later in the period, Penguins heavyweight Steve MacIntyre confronted Amadio and cross-checked him, but Amadio was apparently unwilling to fight. In the scrum that followed, MacIntyre pulled off Dainton's mask and punched him in the head a few times.
More here from Chirps From Center Ice, including news of a Bill Guerin ejection from the Penguins bench.
MacIntyre received a cross-checking minor, an elbowing major and a match penalty for Attempt To Injure, for a total of 17 penalty minutes. The Falcons were given eight minutes of power play time. And we were given such instant classic commentary as "Steve MacIntyre has gone crazy, folks."
