Friday’s Three Stars: Tanguay’s 4-spot; Oduya leads Hawks over Rangers

Via Chris Gansen: "Jeff Carter, right after Joey MacDonald made a super ugly but athletic save. Priceless LA feed screenshot."

No. 1 Star: Alex Tanguay, Calgary Flames

The Flames winger had a 4-point night in Calgary's 5-3 win over the Winnipeg Jets. He picked up secondary helpers on goals by Mark Giordano and Matt Stajan (!); a primary assist on Curtis Glenncross's third-period goal; and scored a huge insurance goal in the second period, his 11th of the season. Tanguay now has 13 points in his last 8 games.

No. 2 Star: Johnny Oduya, Chicago Blackhawks

The Blackhawks defenseman helped lead a Chicago rally to a 4-3 victory over the New York Rangers. Oduya assisted on Andrew Shaw's second-period goal, using a nasty deke on Artem Anisimov at the blue line to open a shooting lane for a tip-in. In the third, his slapper beat Henrik Lundqvist 1:02 after Patrick Sharp scored to tie the game.

No. 3 Star: Valtteri Filppula, Detroit Red Wings

The Red Wings center tallied three points in their 4-3 victory over the Los Angeles Kings. He assisted on Henrik Zetterberg's first-period goal and his second-period goal. He then scored the game-tying goal 1:56 after Dwight King gave the Kings a 3-2 lead in the third.

Honorable mention: Marc Andre-Fleury (28 saves) outdueled Jose Theodore (33 saves) in the Pittsburgh Penguins' 2-1 shootout victory over the Florida Panthers. James Neal and Evgeni Malkin scored in the shootout; Tomas Fleischmann and Steve Sullivan had the regulation tallies. … Jarome Iginla (1 goal, 2 assists) and Olli Jokinen (three assists) had three-point nights for the Flames. Miikka Kiprusoff made 42 saves. … Evander Kane scored his 27th for the Jets, and had another waived off for a high stick. Blake Wheeler has goals in four straight games. … Jeff Carter had a goal and an assist for the Kings. … Joey MacDonald made 21 saves for the Red Wings. … Patrick Kane scored an empty netter that ended up the game winner. … Check out this sick move by Anisimov:

Fight of the Night: Michael Rupp vs. Brandon Bollig in a nice bout.

Did you know? Malkin is 8 for 11 in shootouts this season for Pittsburgh.

Dishonorable mention: Ryan Callahan was a minus-3. … Drew Doughty was a minus-3, while Rob Scuderi was a minus-4. … Jonathan Quick made 11 saves on 15 shots.
